Germinal au théâtre à Hirson

Here is a Germinal with a difference, at the Eden in Hirson on Saturday 30 January 2027 at 8:30 pm.

Pierre Lamotte's adaptation of Émile Zola's masterpiece for the Compagnie Climax fuses theatre and cinema. Three actors on stage interact with around thirty filmed or drawn characters, projected onto moving screens. Pierre Lamotte handles the adaptation, the staging and the film work himself.

The official presentation stresses how current the novel still feels, dealing with social relations, the condition of women, globalisation and coal extraction, which it notes is still expanding. A good reason to look at the Maheu family again with today's eyes.

Tickets are €10, or €2 for groups that include job seekers, under-18s and students. For bookings or questions, the number given is +33 3 23 58 81 33. The listing does not state the running time, so I will not guess.
