Marc Bloch and the languages of history in Villers-Cotterêts

I am inviting you to the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts on Saturday 7 November 2026 at 15:00 for the talk « Les langues de l'Histoire de Marc Bloch ».

A few months after the historian and Resistance member Marc Bloch entered the Panthéon on 23 June 2026, Stéphane Audoin-Rouzeau devotes this talk to the way this emblematic witness approached history. He chairs the International Research Centre of the Historial de la Grande Guerre and is a director of studies at the EHESS. The central idea is clear: Marc Bloch, a key figure of the Second World War, cannot be understood without his experience of the First World War. The Cité sums up the talk as a view through the eyes of the soldier and of the historian.

The talk lasts one hour in the Salle Chêne and is followed by a book signing. Entry is free with booking, and the Cité lists it as open to every audience. It is organised in partnership with the International Research Centre of the Historial de la Grande Guerre, with support from the Somme department.
