What to expect
About this event
I am taking you to Soissons cathedral, rue des Déportés et Fusillés, on Saturday 22 May 2027 at 8 pm for a concert by the orchestra Les Siècles and the ensemble Aedes, choir and soloists, conducted by Mathieu Romano.
At the centre of the programme is Mozart's Requiem, the final masterpiece that death prevented him from completing. The presentation sees it less as a funeral song than as the celebration of a life filled with every human emotion.
More than two centuries later, Claude Vivier wrote Glaubst du an die Unsterblichkeit der Seele? (Do you believe in the immortality of the soul?), a work in which he foresaw his own death and which remained unfinished. The programme also includes Arvo Pärt's Fratres, Henry Purcell's Hear my prayer as reworked by Jan Sandström, and Gérard Grisey's Stèles, exploring the tension between strain and rest, breath and silence.
Tickets cost €10 to €30 from the Ville de Soissons box office. Information on +33 3 23 59 10 12 or at cmd@agglo-soissonnais.com.
