About this event
I am inviting you to Soissons, to 9 allée Claude Debussy, on Friday 12 February 2027 at 20:00, for a concert by the Orchestre de Picardie devoted to music offered to a loved one.
The programme features the tender Salut d’amour, which Elgar dedicated to his fiancée in 1888. It is followed by Siegfried Idyll, the birthday present Wagner gave his wife Cosima on Christmas Day 1870: an intimate “chamber symphony” that the presentation credits with an incomparable power of enchantment.
The programme then broadens its scope. After the diptych for violin and orchestra Rêverie et Caprice, dated 1841, comes Berlioz’s Les Nuits d’été, a cycle of six songs with orchestra composed in 1856. Mezzo-soprano Eléonore Pancrazi carries its vocal line, whose new expressive intensity, the presentation notes, would only find an equivalent in Mahler.
