What to expect
About this event
Let me take you to the Suzanne-Martinet media library in Laon, in the Salle de la Station, for the exhibition "Substrats". It is open on 6, 10, 12, 13 and 17 February 2027, from 2 pm to 6 pm, with free admission.
The starting point is what lies beneath our feet: silent layers of earth, soil horizons and accumulated strata that escape our gaze. The exhibition explores these depths through paper and paint. Crumpled, pressed and painted, the paper becomes relief and sediment and evokes fragments of soil, while the painting reveals soil profiles, buried landscapes and stacked horizons.
The title refers both to geological vocabulary and to a philosophical idea: what supports without showing itself and makes appearance possible. The description speaks of a sensitive journey in which matter becomes memory and the ground becomes language.
I recommend taking your time in front of each piece: strata read better when you do not rush.
