What to expect
About this event
I am taking you to the Espace Bernard-Noël at the Maison des Arts et Loisirs, 2 Place Aubry in Laon, to discover Raphaëlle Peria, a visual artist from the Hauts-de-France region.
For several years her work has explored the memory of landscapes and the fragility of living things. Her technique is scratching into photographs. Using engraving tools, she adds nothing to her images; instead she removes material, layer after layer, to reveal the raw white of the paper. What emerges are pristine, luminous, almost ghostly silhouettes. Depending on the series, she scratches a forest drawn in Indian ink, explores an underwater memory or slips in subtle touches of paint to suggest how fragile our ecosystems are.
The title borrows a line from Henri Matisse: “There are flowers everywhere for those who want to see them.” I find it the perfect set of instructions for this visit.
The exhibition is open until Saturday 7 November 2026, Tuesday to Friday from 13:00 to 17:30 and Saturdays from 14:00 to 17:00. Admission is free. Information on 03 23 22 86 86.
