Autumn is settling back into its habits: a chill in the mornings, jackets coming out again and the throw already trying to claim sole rights to our Sundays. The local calendar has a few reasons for us to head outdoors.
During Pink October, you can walk, run, meet associations, ask questions or simply offer your support. Everyone can take part according to their wishes and what is possible for them. Behind the pink ribbons are people, families and individual journeys that deserve our full attention.
The essential starting point: learning about screening
We can keep smiling while taking the subject seriously.
Screening looks for breast cancer before symptoms appear. Early detection can improve the chances of recovery and make less intensive treatment possible. It does not prevent the disease from developing: its role is to identify it sooner.
The key information: women aged 50 to 74 who have no symptoms or particular risk factors are invited to have a screening mammogram every two years, with 100 % of the cost covered by Assurance Maladie under the organised programme. For those with a relevant medical history or particular risk factors, monitoring is adapted with their doctor.
If you notice a lump, discharge or an unusual change in a breast, consult a healthcare professional without waiting for your next screening appointment. Health questions matter all year round, whatever month the calendar says.
In Aisne, solidarity has a place on the map
In Pontru, people share their skills
On Sunday 4 October, Pontru is holding a day combining information, physical activity and wellbeing. A 5 km walk will start at 10:00, and a free workshop will offer information about breast cancer.
Le Salon Âme-Zen, L’Atelier L’Oiseau and Ma Pause Ongle are volunteering their time to offer wellbeing, hairdressing and hand-care services. Contributions are voluntary: all money collected for these services will go to Diamant Rose, which supports women affected by breast cancer. Remember to book your time slot with the town hall.
In Château-Thierry, voices join in too
On Thursday 8 October, from 19:30, Ladies’ Circle 17 Château-Thierry is organising a Céline Dion karaoke evening at La Roue Libre.
Everyone will do their best with the highest notes. The fundraising arrangements are precise: the €25 per person package includes the evening, half a sharing platter, a cocktail and a dessert. All profits will go to ANAT de l’Omois to support the fight against breast cancer.
In Soissons, the trainers are back in action
On Sunday 11 October, Soiss’N Rose welcomes participants to the esplanade du Mail, alongside the associations Rose de Dames and OncoSoissons.
On the programme: a 5 km run at 9:00 and a 5 km walk at 10:00, with no rankings or timing. Personal-best enthusiasts can give their performance charts the morning off.
Information stands, workshops and activities round out the day. It is a chance to take part at your own pace and meet the people who support patients and their loved ones.
In Charmes, meet in the town hall square
On Saturday 17 October, the local authority and the association ART de Charmes are organising a 5 km fundraising walk.
Welcome and registration begin at 13:30 in the town hall square, with the walk starting at 14:00. The €5 participation fee will go to the Ligue contre le cancer, which will also run an information and awareness stand. A chance to combine an outing with neighbours and a useful conversation.
In Laon, solidarity gathers at the foot of the cathedral
On Sunday 18 October, Le Footing Sympa welcomes participants from 9:15 on the cathedral forecourt, before the walk and jog start at 10:00.
Contributions start at €5. The morning's proceeds will be divided equally between Ruban Rose, to support research, and Les Rubans de Laonvie, which provides local support to people affected by the disease.
Everyone has something to offer
Taking part in a walk, attending a workshop, making a donation within your means or sharing an association's contact details: there are many ways to support this effort.
Support also comes through everyday gestures. Checking in. Listening without pressing advice on anyone. Offering practical help and respecting the answer. Making room for loved ones too.
At NLocale, we like events that bring people together. Pink October also gives us a chance to become better informed and pay attention to those affected.
A touch of pink on your jacket, reliable information to share and time for others: these are ways to put solidarity into practice close to home.
Events announced as of 1 October 2026. Check the organisers' information for registration and participation arrangements.
