About this place
Erosion has sculpted striking sandstone boulders among the heath. The Hauts-de-France nature conservancy describes a 1.8 km walk from the D310 car park. This is a fragile natural site: stay on marked trails and do not climb the rocks.
What to look for
- The sculpted sandstone formations.
- Heather heathland, especially colourful in late summer.
- The conservancy’s marked 1.8 km walk.
The walk from Coincy
Follow the D310 out of Coincy to the car park indicated by the regional nature conservancy. Two marked paths explore the sandstone formations; the manager describes a 1.8 km walk. This is not a place to scramble over the boulders: stay on the paths to protect the plants, sand and habitats. Suitable footwear helps after rain.
Enjoy without disturbing
Erosion shaped the unusual sandstone boulders. Heather turns the heathland pink towards late summer, and its habitats support specialised wildlife and plants. The site’s name recalls a legend about stones falling from the Devil’s basket; Camille Claudel also drew inspiration from this landscape. For another local nature stop, the conservancy also presents nearby La Sablonnière.
