About this place

In the 19th century Jean-Baptiste André Godin created housing and shared services here for his workers. The self-guided route explores exhibitions and former communal facilities; the theatre and cellars are accessible only on guided visits. Gardens complete the experience. Allow at least three hours for the whole site.

What to look for

  • The glass-roofed central courtyard.
  • Former communal spaces and the theatre.
  • The site gardens.

What your ticket covers

The self-guided ticket covers the former stores, laundry-pool, Godin’s apartment and exhibitions in the central pavilion. Allow at least three hours for the whole site. The ornamental gardens and peninsula garden can be entered without a ticket; the cellars and theatre, however, require a guided visit. The permanent displays are in French and English, with some media also available in Dutch.

Choose a visit and get there

The general guided tour takes about one hour and includes a self-guided visit for the rest of the day. The published general tour departures are 11:30 and 15:00; shorter theatre or cellar tours may be available on the programme, with a stated €3 supplement. Buy tickets online or at reception. Drivers should use the designated laundry, former stores or canal car parks. Picnic tables are available in the peninsula garden.
