About this place
Enguerrand III built the present castle in the early 13th century. Its monumental keep and four towers were blown up in March 1917: today you visit their remains, not a standing keep. The courtyards, ruins and park tell both a medieval and a First World War story.
What to look for
- Enguerrand III’s fortress and courtyards.
- The remains of the keep destroyed in 1917.
- The park is included in the ticket.
The visit, step by step
Explore the fortress courtyards and ruins, then leave time for the park: one ticket covers both. A free visitor leaflet is available at reception in French, English, German, Dutch and Spanish. Monument staff may also offer a one-hour guided introduction at no extra charge, subject to availability; it cannot be booked in advance.
Before setting off
Standard admission is listed at €7. Entry is free for under-18s; with the required proof, EU citizens or legal residents of France aged 18–25 and visitors with disabilities with a companion also qualify. Family activities for ages 6–12 run during school holidays in zone B: check the programme before travelling. This is an open-air monument with steps and uneven ground, so bring suitable shoes and weather protection.
