What to expect

About this event

Let me take you to the Chemin des Dames, the First World War battlefield ridge at Cerny-en-Laonnois, on Saturday 7 November 2026. The meeting point is in front of the memorial chapel at 10.30 am, for a tour lasting an hour and a half.

Local historian Guy Marival first introduces the memorial chapel. A guide from the Caverne du Dragon, the Chemin des Dames museum, then leads the tour of the French and German cemeteries. The tour takes place outdoors.

This morning is part of Les Grands Jours de la Mémoire, now in its very first edition. From 3 to 11 November 2026, the First World War heritage mission of the Aisne department offers one highlight a day, each time in a different area, to showcase the funerary and memorial sites on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The Aisne department has nine of them.

The tour is free. The tourist office lists it as booking required, while the department says booking is recommended: the simplest option is to email caverne@aisne.fr or call 03 23 25 14 18.

This event has ended and is now archived. The listing remains available as a record of the event.
