SUMMARY:Ben: Les mots c’est la vie in Villers-Cotterêts
DESCRIPTION:The exhibition "Les mots c'est la vie : Ben envahit la Cité" presents the work of Ben Vautier at the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts from 8 December 2026 to 30 May 2027, with tickets at €5.\nLet me take you to the Cité internationale de la langue française, France's international centre for the French language in Villers-Cotterêts, where Ben moves in from 8 December 2026 to 30 May 2027. The title means words are life, Ben takes over the Cité.\n\nBen Vautier, known simply as Ben, is famous worldwide for his white words painted on black, which have become slogans in their own right. True to the spirit of Fluxus, the movement that from the 1960s blurred the lines between art, gesture and everyday life, he turns words into actions, images and questions. From the cour des Offices to the chapel, banners, neon signs, posters, sculptures and installations fill the building.\n\nCurated by Eva Vautier, the exhibition has four rooms: appropriation and gesture, writing that becomes painting, truth and doubt, and finally languages, peoples and identities, with works that give voice to several so-called minority languages.\n\nAn exhibition ticket costs €5, and a combined ticket with the permanent exhibition €12. Entry is free for under-26s and other eligible visitors, as well as on Sundays 3 January, 7 February and 7 March 2027. Last entry is at 5.30 pm. Guided tours take place on Saturdays 19 December, 2 January, 30 January and 6 March at 2.30 pm.\nFrom 8 December 2026 to 30 May 2027. Cité internationale de la langue française, 1 place Aristide Briand, 02600 Villers-Cotterêts. Last entry 5.30 pm. Exhibition €5, combined ticket €12, free for under-26s and eligible visitors. Free Sundays: 3 January, 7 February, 7 March 2027. Adapted for visitors with limited mobility and for pushchairs. Guided tours on Saturdays 19 December, 2 January, 30 January and 6 March at 2.30 pm.\nI bet you too once owned a pencil case or a diary covered in that white handwriting on black. I recommend coming to see where it comes from, and noticing that it works just as well on a wall as on a rough notebook. And I suggest marking the three free Sundays in your diary, ideally in white felt pen.\nBen exhibition at the Cité, Villers-Cotterêts, 2026-2027\nExposition Les mots c'est la vie: Ben at the Cité de la langue française, Villers-Cotterêts, 8 Dec 2026 to 30 May 2027, four rooms, €5 ticket.\nHow long is the Ben exhibition on in Villers-Cotterêts?\nFrom 8 December 2026 to 30 May 2027 at the Cité internationale de la langue française.\nHow much is admission?\n€5 for the exhibition, €12 for a combined ticket with the permanent exhibition, free for under-26s and eligible visitors.\nAre there free days?\nYes, on Sundays 3 January, 7 February and 7 March 2027.\nWhat time is last entry?\n5.30 pm.\nAre there guided tours?\nYes, on Saturdays 19 December, 2 January, 30 January and 6 March at 2.30 pm.
