SUMMARY:Journées francophones de la recherche en histoire de la photographie
DESCRIPTION:The Journées francophones de la recherche en histoire de la photographie, a French-language research meeting on the history of photography, take place on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November 2026 from 10:00 to 18:00 in the auditorium of the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts, free of charge with booking.\nLet me take you to the château of Villers-Cotterêts, home of the Cité internationale de la langue française, for two study days on the history of photography, on 18 and 19 November 2026, from 10:00 to 18:00, in the auditorium.\n\nSince 2020, the Institut pour la photographie des Hauts-de-France has organised these French-language research days, under the academic direction of the journal Transbordeur. Photographie, histoire, société. This 4th edition carries the Bicentenary of Photography label from the French Ministry of Culture. It follows on from the 2025 conference « Photographie, les nouveaux enjeux de l'histoire » and sets out to take stock of current research and its future directions.\n\nThe themes include the materiality of images, links with media archaeology, situated, feminist, decolonial and queer perspectives, and more experimental ways of exhibiting and writing about images. Partners are the universities of Picardie Jules Verne, Lille, Lausanne, Québec à Montréal, the Université Libre de Bruxelles and Namur, with support from the Institut français.\n\nAdmission is free, with booking, and the event is listed as open to all audiences. On Wednesday 18 November, from 17:45 to 18:30, the related programme features Halida Boughriet's installation and performance « Le Tribunal des Archives coloniales reste ouvert ».\nWednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November 2026, 10:00 to 18:00. Auditorium, Cité internationale de la langue française, château de Villers-Cotterêts. Free, booking through the Cité's online ticketing. All audiences. Organised by the Institut pour la photographie des Hauts-de-France.\nI confess I thought the history of photography came down to someone saying “hold still”. These two study days show me that, on the contrary, it moves a great deal. I suggest you book your seat, it is free, and keep Wednesday evening for Halida Boughriet's performance.\nHistory of photography research days, Villers-Cotterêts\nJournées francophones de la recherche en histoire de la photographie: 18 and 19 November 2026 at the Cité in Villers-Cotterêts, Aisne, free with booking.\nWhen are the research days on the history of photography?\nOn Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 November 2026, from 10:00 to 18:00.\nWhere are they held?\nIn the auditorium of the Cité internationale de la langue française, at the château of Villers-Cotterêts.\nDo I need to pay or book?\nAdmission is free, but booking is required.\nWho organises the event?\nThe Institut pour la photographie des Hauts-de-France, under the academic direction of the journal Transbordeur.
