DESCRIPTION:The open rehearsal of Tum Teav by Borey Tep and Nyalic Khun takes place on Saturday 14 November 2026 at 16:00 at the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts, free of charge with booking.\nI am inviting you to the Cité internationale de la langue française in Villers-Cotterêts on Saturday 14 November 2026 at 16:00 for an open rehearsal of Tum Teav, described as the Cambodian « Romeo and Juliet ».\n\nCambodian artists Borey Tep and Nyalic Khun, members of the ensemble of The Last Stage in Phnom Penh, share with you the result of their month-long residency at the Cité. Their visit echoes the 20th Francophonie Summit in Phnom Penh and is run in partnership with the Institut français du Cambodge.\n\nTum Teav tells the tragic love of Tum, a young Buddhist novice with a remarkable voice, and Teav, a young woman bound by the decisions of her mother, Yeay Phan. This romantic tragedy from the mid nineteenth century, taught in secondary schools for generations, deals with forbidden love, family pressure, class relations and abuse of power. The two artists reinterpret it in French and Khmer, drawing on the poetry and musicality of the language.\n\nThe rehearsal lasts one hour in the Salle Chêne, with free, seated placement. Entry is free with booking.\nVenue: Cité internationale de la langue française, Salle Chêne, 1 place Aristide Briand, Villers-Cotterêts. Date: Saturday 14 November 2026 at 16:00. Running time: 1 hour. Free, booking required. Unreserved seating. In French and Khmer.\nI love attending a rehearsal, because you get to see a show being born. I suggest you book, since entry is free but booking is required, and let yourself be carried by the mix of French and Khmer. One hour to discover a great Cambodian love story feels to me like a lovely journey.\nTum Teav open rehearsal in Villers-Cotterêts, 14 November\nRépétition en public · Tum Teav, the Cambodian Romeo and Juliet, in Villers-Cotterêts on Saturday 14 November 2026 at 16:00, free with booking.\nWhen is the open rehearsal of Tum Teav?\nOn Saturday 14 November 2026 at 16:00, in the Salle Chêne of the Cité internationale de la langue française.\nDo I need to pay or book?\nEntry is free, but booking is required.\nWhat is Tum Teav about?\nIt tells the tragic love of Tum, a young Buddhist novice, and Teav, a young woman bound by the decisions of her mother, Yeay Phan.\nWhat language is it performed in?\nBorey Tep and Nyalic Khun reinterpret Tum Teav in French and Khmer.
